Hey there, I discovered this blog only about a year and a half later. Remember that marathon I was training for? Well! 2010 came and went-and I didn’t run a single mile. Especially did not run 26.2 in one fell swoop. The reality of that news does not embarrass me. What does is the fact that this pathetic attempt at blogging has been chilling online for m.o.n.t.h.s. and i have neglected to contribute. and. i just remembered a completely separate blog i had started during summer of 2010. it was a blog entirely devoted to my summer job hunt. i’ll sum it up for you: never got a job. so to continue blogging would have been a redundant tragedy.

Anyway, I am relieved to provide you with a solid excuse for my failure to blog. around september of 2009, my Sony Vaio laptop completely crashed- so i was unable to translate my deep thoughts to the world wide net. fast forward a year and a half– I’m a senior in my final semester, living in a house with a couple of other girls, and i finally have a computer in my possession. but to leave it at that would be insulting. so it’s a 27″ iMac, fully loaded with CS5 and an automatic Xanax dispenser to keep me from peeing my pants every time i sit in front of it.

no one likes long blogs. later, baby, maybe.

lately i’ve been really annoyed by a few things.

first of all, i can’t stand it when the end of the toilet paper roll doesn’t fall off the roll, exposing itself. instead i’m forced to spin the roll at least 20 times, hoping i’ll eventually find the end of the roll. it’s annoying.

also, i don’t like it when people get offended when you misspell their name. there are millions of sara/sarahs in the world, and i’m not going out of my way to remember if your name has a silent “h” attached or not.

i’m guilty of this.. but i don’t really like it when people say “love you,” and leave out the I. to say “I love you,” is definitely a more genuine statement than a casual “love you.” if you’re not comfortable adding the “I,” then maybe you don’t love that person?..

i’m currently annoyed with myself for not stealing food from my house before coming to school. pancakes and spaghetti get old after a while. and my declining balance that i use for meals in the student center is declining, indeed.

cheap, crappy washing machines that steal my money, forcing me to throw my detergent-soaked clothes back in my laundry basket… and then run over to the student center to withdraw more money from my account.. and then heave my laundry over to my friend’s apartment, where i can utilize their more expensive (but functioning) washing machine.

now that i got it all out, i don’t have to go to bed annoyed! gnight.

monday madness

it’s that time of year, when i should start monitoring the weather channel. .weather website.. whatever. i woke up today at 6:30 for a run and discovered that my shorts + tee combo wasn’t quite appropriate. it wasn’t freezing out, but it was just the teeniest bit too cold. excuses, excuses, i know. i sucked today, but at least i went out and did something.

after my pitiful attempt at running, i came inside for a shower, only to discover that we had zero hot water. now, hear me out- i’m a fan of cool-temp showers after workouts, but i mean there was NO ADDED HEAT. let me tell you, it was rough. pulled on sweat pants and a hoodie.. then i shivered in my bed through chapel. i was kinda dramatic.

i enjoy wearing pants that are a few inches too short. and ben and i can’t figure out exactly why people continue to do marching band in college. especially at harding. i was inspired by ike peters to start blogging, assuming that i’d be able to record all of my interesting thoughts like he does. can’t recall any so far. i’ll work on that.

edit: why do so many romantic movies resolve with the guy running through the woods to find and kiss/apologize to the girl? does that ever happen in real life? has that ever once happened? it does in movies. they’re suddenly both in the same patch of forest and he is able to track her within minutes. maybe i need to chill in the woods more.

anxious as i may be to graduate and begin a life of semi-independence (how independent can one be when she is TENS of thousands of dollars in debt from student loans?), i do realize that i’ll be stripped away of many collegiate luxuries. the most prominent one being the freedom to nap. while most jobs have a very consistent schedule of 9 to 5, i happen to be finished with class for the week, and therefore, have the glorious opportunity to rest my brain for a couple hours.

my roommates, as i’ve discovered, enjoy watching movies after curfew at cinematic volumes. i struggled to fall asleep for a couple hours before i finally decided to put my ear plugs in. consequently, i never heard my 6:30 alarm go off, so i skipped my morning run.

not a good start in my training. this post contains no significance, but how many blogs do? i’m just entertaining myself, mostly. have you ever checked out this site? www.awkwardfamilyphotos.com

introduction

i’ve decided to begin a blog for a variety of reasons. i’m in a class entitled “writing for the mass media,” and blogs are definitely one medium of mass communication. another reason is that i like the idea of having a way to share information and thoughts with anyone who is remotely interested.

today i received a much-anticipated package in the mail. it included my nike sports watch and sensor for my running shoes. now when i run, i can quickly glance at my wrist to discover how many miles i’ve covered, how many calories i’ve burned, and how long i have been working out. though i participated in cross country as a high schooler, i never had much of a drive to push myself. without the willpower to keep running, to tear through the weight of self-doubt and physical pain, i could very easily convince myself to give up. over the years in college, i’ve attempted to pick it back up– usually after reading a blood-pumping, you-go-girl kind of article in women’s health– but without any real motivation, i quickly lose interest. until now. seriously.

i’m running the st louis marathon in april of 2010 because i can. i’m prepared to take on the greatest challenge of my life and prove to myself that i can harness the willpower that is essential to completing 26.2 miles.

so this blog will be msotly my random thoughts about life, haha, but i’ll also toss in some updates on my running. if i pretend that people are reading this, then perhaps i’ll be able to squeeze out even more motivation.

i’m currently building endurance back up. not ready to run more than 4 miles at a time yet– and i’m perfectly ok with that. i have eight months to prepare for this race, so i’m taking it slow.
